Facing the future

NBT Academy

As part of our competence supply strategy and to broaden the recruitment base, we at Norrbottens Bergteknik have started an internal training programme in drilling.

The training consists of theory, practical work and machine operation. Each new driller is assigned their own supervisor who supports them through all stages. The theory part corresponds to one day and the practical work to about six months of work. After drilling 1000 hours and being approved according to the supervisor's instructions, a drilling certificate is issued. The training is approved by the industry organisation BEF (Bergsprängnings Entreprenörernas Förening) and the drilling certificate also carries the BEF logo.

We now have three appointed supervisors and the first future drillers are up and running.

Magnus Jonsson

Magnus Jonsson

Drill rig operator SINCE 2012

Magnus Jonsson lives in Lycksele and has been employed by Norrbottens Bergteknik for six years. Before that, he worked for a crusher company that was a subcontractor.
– I like my work. I have freedom at work and can organise my own working week. This is one of the reasons why I work here. We have a lot to do and I feel that the company does everything to ensure that we are happy, he says.

Jon-Anders Skum

Blaster since 2019

Jon-Anders worked as a carpenter but was not happy with his situation. When he was offered a role as an apprentice blaster at Norrbottens Bergteknik, he accepted.
– I am really enjoying my new role! I have freedom at work and a lot of responsibility. You need to be self-motivated and not be afraid to make your own decisions. I feel that I am in the right place. You might think that blasting is just loading and firing, but it's much more than that. You first have to understand the conditions of the rock and the nature of the job, choose a suitable method and use the right kind of explosives. Then it's all based on safety, which is particularly important when blasting in densely populated areas or where other personnel are close by.
Fredric Trygg

Fredric Trygg

Drill rig operator since 2012

Fredric joined Norrbottens Bergteknik in 2012 and is keen to be an active part of the positive work environment.

– It has been an amazing journey as the company has grown. When I started, we were about 15 people. I have learnt from scratch but am far from fully trained. Norrbottens Bergteknik is a great employer. The company is family orientated and is good at bringing in young people and giving them a chance. I am proof of that and there are more than just me. I learn new things and am happy to take on assignments and fill in where needed. I like being in the field, it suits me. I like to create an atmosphere that is encouraging, supportive and provides a good pace. My attitude is also that we work as a team. It doesn't matter if someone does 100 metres and I do 300, we've still done 400 metres together that day.

Safety and health

A safe and secure working environment is central to us. We want all employees to feel safe at work and come home healthy at the end of the day.

Our goal is to be an industry leader in health and safety, and we want to achieve this through a management system based on trained, aware and experienced employees, as well as ISO 45001 certification.

To achieve our goals, it is important that we work together and that all employees think about health and safety every day. We all need to work together to achieve our goal of minimising accidents and risks.

We work with continuous development, both in the proactive work but also that we are careful to report and follow up on events that have occurred. The goal is to become even better as a company and to make our workplaces even safer.
